My name is Dr. Jasmine Akinsulire (she/her). I am a doctoral level clinician, certified mindset coach and life coach. I am Nigerian, Italian, and Cape Verdean. I come from parents who are immigrants and love working with clients from different cultural backgrounds.
In my own journey I have been inspired by radical self-love and acceptance. As someone who has ADHD and is neurodivergent, I know what it is like to live in a world in which you don’t feel accepted and that tries to make you into someone you’re not. I have also had my own body journey and know what it’s like to live in a body that has been oppressed and to not feel seen or understood by those around me.
As a therapist, I work with a range of presenting concerns. I support people in healing their relationship with food and body and in developing a deeper sense of self. I have experience working with people with eating disorders and disordered eating, as well as those with anxiety, trauma, and other challenges. I frequently work with neurodivergent folx as well as members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
I use a client centered approach in my work and trust that you are the expert on your own life and experiences. My approach to therapy is informed by motivational interviewing, a strengths-based understanding, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and solution focused treatment. Given that every client is unique, I adapt therapy approaches to meet your specific needs and we will work collaboratively towards your goals. My work with clients is always from a Health at Every Size®, fat positive, social justice lens.
I am passionate about the work I do in supporting those I work with in becoming their most authentic self. In our work together, I strive to create an environment in which you are able to be vulnerable, share your story, build trust, and know that you will be accepted for all of who you are. We will work together to challenge the unhelpful messages you have received from the culture, family, community, etc., and recognize your value and worth in the world.
A few other things about me: I have a 5-year-old son who is the love of my life. We love doing outdoor activities together. I also love animals and love to travel- especially to other countries. I am passionate about learning and am always seeking to learn new things. In addition to being a doctoral level therapist, I am a certified coach, certified sleep consultant and certified potty-training consultant.
I look forward to getting to know you and beginning our work together. It is an honor to support clients in their journey.
